Presentation types

Research Presentation (30 minutes)

A Research Presentation involves a 20-minute presentation that describes a research study through which the presenter aims to raise awareness about a topic within the conference theme, followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session. Any research type (including action research/classroom research) can make the content of this presentation type. The presenter is expected to provide a brief overview of the study conducted by sharing the research question, the outline of the methodology and the data analysis procedure in brief. Emphasis should be placed on presenting the findings, discussing the insights gained, and highlighting the future implications of the study. The presenter is kindly requested to deliver their report with occasional reference to their notes or slides.

Theme-Based Presentation (60 minutes)

A Theme-based Presentation brings together three colleagues, each with a unique teaching or learning idea, approach, implementation, or best practice to share. Each presenter will have a 15minute individual presentation to share/deliver their idea. Theme-based presentations may not necessarily be research-based, but are designed to inspire creativity and promote effective teaching methods.

Following the presentations, a 15-minute session will be allocated for questions and answers, providing an opportunity for the audience to engage with the presenters and delve deeper into the presented concepts.

This dynamic session aims to offer a diverse range of teaching and learning strategies, allowing participants to gain insights and practical applications for their own classrooms. It also aims to provide a platform for presenters to exchange ideas and receive feedback from their peers.

The sub-themes for this session are predetermined and aligned with the theme of the convention, “Envisioning Future Paths”. These subthemes are:

  • The use of AI in ELT
  • Social Justice in ELT Classrooms
  • Continuous Professional Development

Workshop (45 minutes)

A Workshop is a 45-minute session in which the presenter/facilitator aims to create an opportunity for hands-on practice or interactive participation to help the audience gain awareness about a new idea or procedure in the context of teaching and learning. The presenter/facilitator is expected to create an environment that fosters audience participation through tasks as teachers or learners or through engaging discussions. This participatory session ultimately targets cognitive or practical experience on the part of the audience, enabling them to gain insight into the new idea or procedure.

Poster presentation (30 minutes)

The aim of a Poster Presentation is to visually present the findings of a research study related to the theme of the conference. Submissions should clearly indicate the methodology, data analysis, and the implications of the study. Posters should be designed to be visually attractive and legible from one to two meters. (130 X 100) The presenter is required to include the objectives, key procedures and methods, results, and conclusions in the poster.

Each presenter will be scheduled to present for 30 minutes at their poster during the conference. Poster presentations will be scheduled for either 10 or 11 May 2024.
